I had the pleasure of attending a Marv Walker Mind Meeting Mind in Minutes Clinic in Mooers, N.Y. in April of 2000 I brought with me a 7 year old Arabian Mare that I had purchased in July of 99. I had spent a considerable amount of time doing basic ground work with this mare as she had come from a rather abusive situation. When I bought her it was a big job just to get a halter on her, by the time I took her to Marv's clinic I had done a lot of sacking out and had even saddled and mounted her just to sit on her. She still had, however, a clenched jaw and ears that were drawn very tightly together, a get out of my face expression as Marv put it.
First of all Marv, unlike so many other clinicians, invited me into the round pen with him, so that I could learn what he was doing. In a few minutes this mare's whole demeanor changed. I might mention that this mare was very pregnant at the time and we had agreed that we WOULD NOT stress her in any way. Marv never let her get above an easy trot, but it was like suddenly a light came on in her head and she said "oh that's what you want" I can tell you that she is a joy to work with now, she delivered me a beautiful little filly on June 12th and is a wonderful Mom.
I am beginning to mount and ride her in the round pen with baby at her side, although a bit distracted because of the baby, she is learning to step off and balance my weight at a walk, for very brief 10 minute sessions. I would highly recommend that if you have an opportunity to attend one of Marv Walker's clinics, you owe it to yourself to attend.
